Thai Massage

I remember the first time I went for a Thai massage. I was asked to wear comfortable loose-fitting clothes for my appointment and unlike other forms of massage, I was told to keep my clothes on. When I walked into the treatment room, I was surprised to see that instead of a massage table there was a mat on the floor. My therapist spent the next 90 minutes using her thumbs, elbows, palms and knees to stretch my limbs, massage my muscles, apply steady pressure to specific energy points, all while moving my body through a variety of yoga positions. When I stood up after the session I was absolutely amazed at how my mind and body felt – absolutely invigorated and energized, flexible and loose. It was almost 20 years ago that Ifell in love with Thai massage.
This ancient healing system emerged more than 2500 years ago in what is now modern Thailand. Thai massage practitioners believe that vital forces in our bodies are carried through a variety of pathways. These vital forces are referred to aschiin China, pranain yogic traditions andloomin Thai. When these vital forces are blocked, one can end up with too much energy in some areas and not enough energy in others. We perceive these blockages as muscle tension, anxiety, pain or a variety of other uncomfortable feelings. Thai massage combines acupressure, rhythmic movements, assisted yoga postures and energy balancing techniques to unblock these pathways in order to increase flexibility, ease tension and stress, and promote heath.
Thai massage can be a powerful tool for boosting your immune system, easing mental stress, increasing mental clarity, relieving muscle tension and back pain, improving posture, and lifting the mood. A truly integrated form of massage, it will leave you feeling mentally, physically and emotionally nourished. I highly recommend it….
